Longford singer Sharyn Ward
Sharyn Ward, a Longford native has earned her spot in the grand final of Ireland’s Got Talent.
The judges were blown away at day one by her rendition of Finbar Furey’s Sweet Sixteen after a suggestion by Louis Walsh.
She amazed judges again with a cover of the song Black is the Colour in the semi-final on Saturday night.
Sharyn and the dance group Fly Youth went directly through to the Grand Final premiering on April 7.
Sharyn was discovered by Ireland’s Got Talent host Lucy Kennedy on her show Living with Lucy and she has been on the rise to fame since.
“I love your voice, loved your first audition and it was even better tonight. You look like a real star, you sing from the heart I think you have a recording voice,” commented Louis Walsh on her performance of Black is the Colour.
Sharyn has said that she has been singing all of her life and she hopes that her time in the competition has changed people’s perception of the travelling community.
She received some hate online because of her roots but she decided to brush it of: after receiving four yeses in her audition and a standing ovation she realised that 99% of the comments about her were positive and she wanted to power through.
The 33-year-old now living in Dublin has said, “I got a big shock when they said my name. I thought when I came in for rehearsals that there are 24 of us altogether in the semi-finals, what were the chances of me getting to the final?
“I am so happy and so grateful to God and everyone that has given me support.”
The judges are all very supportive of her and Jason Byrne has said that her accent gives her a “unique” sound; he also added that she has a “chance of winning the whole show”.
