Longford's Mattie Fox: Spatial strategy contains some great ideas

I must compliment The Longford Leader, for featuring in a meaningful way, the outrageous state of our Longford roads.

A very good article, two weeks ago.

It’s simply wrong to allow any coverage of “new” funding, without printing a balancing feature that shows the ongoing constant delay in bothering to do anything at all, about many Longford county roads.

Edgeworthstown is absolutely scandalous.

Bump, bump, bump, bump, bump as you approach the town.

A modern car test operation.

Plus the craters as you enter town, several over a metre wide.

The spatial strategy, to be completed over the next ten years.....whoever will be in power to start it.....contains some great and innovative ideas.

But don’t let anyone kid you, or kid yourself, by claiming that Longford is targeted as part of the upgrade of the M4.

No government who was serious about anything could on the one hand propose Sligo as one of the nerve centres, whilst leaving the motorway in the state it’s in currently.

The upgraded M4 will be a link connecting Dublin/Sligo/Dublin.

Longford is simply the incidental beneficiary of a road going somewhere else.
