The pay and file season will get under way soon for Local Property Tax due in 2015, and the Revenue Commissioners will be writing to approximately one million property owners offering them the opportunity to choose when and how they will pay it.
However, those paying LPT by deducation at source or by direct debit will not be contacted. Instead, the existing payment method will be rolled over.
Longford County Council is one of 14 local authorities which have decided to reduce the tax rate for the coming year, resulting in six different rates of LPT for each property value band. There is no need to apply for this reduction - Revenue will apply it automatically. Because county boundaries and postal addresses are not always aligned, there will be cases where the charge is incorrect; Revenue have a team on hand to handle these cases.
The range of payment options available means owners can choose when and how to pay according to their preferences and circumstances. Property owners can also apply to defer the tax even if they didn’t do so in the past.
If you wish to avail of a phased payment, such as direct debit, deduction at source, or regular cash payments through a Payment Service Provider, you need to inform Revenue by November 25, 2014.
On the other hand, if you prefer to pay in full with a single payment via debit/credit card or cheque, you can do so any time before January 7, 2015. This payment will be processed immediately.
