The former Garda Stations in Newtowncashel, County Longford and Cloone, County Leitrim were sold following an auction of seven such properties which took place yesterday.
The auction, which was facilitated by GW2 - a subsidiary of Ganly Walters - was the first of its kind in the State’s history. Approximately 75 people attended the auction and almost 300 bids were received in total.
It’s believed both properties sold for close to the asking price of €55,000 each.
Meanwhile, Ardagh Garda Station was withdrawn from the auction but it is understood negotiations are under way regarding its sale. The building, which is listed for sale at €125,000, was the subject of controversey in recent weeks, as a number of local groups lobbied to have the property retained for community use.
