Having made Longford town one of their stop-off points on most recent tours, the Garrett Wall Band are set to return in the New Year - this time with a show in Backstage Theatre in March.
The long-standing connection with Longford came about through the Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival, when band member Robbie K. Jones was playing with the Barcelona Bluegrass Band, and managed to arrange a gig for the Garrett Wall Band in the Tally Ho bar soon after the festival had ended.
The band have made a number of appearances at the New Street venue in recent years, including a gig last April.
Now the band are set to firmly put a stamp on their popularity in Longford with a show in the larger surrounds of Backstage Theatre on March 25 next.
The Garrett Wall Band are a four-piece acoustic band based in Madrid, Spain comprising of members from Ireland, England and the USA.
The band's highly original line-up eschews normal guidelines by replacing drums with cajn (flamenco box drum) and electric guitar with trumpet rounded out by acoustic guitar, electric bass and four part harmonies. Their debut album, "Sky Pointing", was mixed in Nashville by David Ferguson (Johnny Cash, Rick Rubin) and will be released in the US in October 2010 by NY label Cosmic Trigger.
Their second album "Hands & Imperfections" was released in Ireland in February and has seen two singles playlisted on RTE Radio 1 inlcuding "Is There No Freedom?"
After having completed three highly successful tours of Ireland in 2010 the band will return to Ireland in late March for a few live dates in preparation for the recording of their third studio album for release in 2011.
