Longford Triathlon Club have teamed up this year with Longford Mental Health Association to hold their second 24-hour Triathlon.
The event, which will take place in Longford Sports and Leisure Centre from 6pm to 6pm November 2nd-3rd, will see participants take part in the 24-hour challenge of continuous swim, cycle and run.
The event was successful last year and half of the money raised was given to Chernobyl Children. Established in 1981, Longford Mental Health Association is a voluntary organisation who support persons suffering from mental health and their families and strive to promote positive awareness, understanding and acceptance of Mental Health in the community.
Longford MHA is made up of a group of volunteers from different backgrounds and interests. Their main aims in the local area are to provide support, care and friendship to people who are affected by mental health problems and daily stresses.
Through the activities they are involved in they work to promote a positive awareness of mental health, well-being and self-help. Longford MHA work to create a better understanding and acceptance of mental illness in order to increase the value given to and felt by people with mental health problems.
The group provide support to carers and family and also hope to develop and expand their public education programmes. A clear commitment from this group ensures that all funds raised are used to benefit people from Co. Longford.
The association promote the link between mental and physical health through fun activities including the mini marathon. This involves the social get together of ladies at training sessions and is a major fundraiser.
The Longford Triathlon Club 24 hour triathlon aims to further highlight the importance of physical exercise through their own fundraiser. This event offers people in the locality the opportunity to get an insight into the sport of triathlon in a fun environment while also supporting a worthwhile and important cause.
Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to get involved and half of all money raised will go directly to Longford Mental Health Association. The slots are broken into half an hour and will take place indoors. If you would like to swim, cycle or run contact Rachel on 085-7449513 for a chance to take part.
