One in every 19 Longford homes now has grant-aided rooftop solar panels installed

A total of 848 homes across the county have now adopted solar energy and adoption continues to outpace earlier years, with 119 households installing solar panels so far in 2026.
One in every 19 homes in county Longford now has grant-aided rooftop solar panels installed, it has emerged.
The finding comes from an analysis of SEAI data by electricity price comparison website Kilowatt.ie.
A total of 848 homes across the county have now adopted solar energy.
Adoption continues to outpace earlier years, with 119 households installing solar panels so far this year, already exceeding the 85 installations completed across the entire year of 2022.
Dominic Ó Gallachóir, the founder of Kilowatt.ie, who spoke about the findings, said, "Solar energy is helping housholds to put a huge dent in their electricity bills.
"And with the right electricity tariff, we even see some households who get a payment from their supplier rather than a bill. So it's no surprise to see the boom in solar panel installations is continuing."
Houses, regardless of location, may now install unlimited solar panels on their rooftops without any requirement for planning permission (subject to certain conditions).
