Sinn Féin candidate Barry Campion has been eliminated in the Granard Municipal District count.
He was eliminated around 10.30pm on Sunday evening, as the count continues, with no-one elected since three candidates, Cllrs Garry Murtagh, Turlough McGovern and Paraic Brady were elected on the first count.
Cllr Colin Dalton is currently in fourth place, with his Fine Gael colleague Padraig McNamara in position to clinch the fifth seat, at the moment.
McNamara currently stands on 850 votes, ahead of 6th placed David Cassidy of Fianna Fáil on 615 votes, who will need to make significant gains on transfers if he is to win a seat for his party and thwart Fine Gael's hopes of four out of five seats in this area.
