The 1944 invoice was from Quinn’s Supply Stores in Edgeworthstown, which is still in existence
In recent months, there has been a social media trend of posting old receipts, primarily grocery receipts from 2006, to highlight the significant change in prices in the intervening years.
One accounts bill has managed to beat them all.
Posting on the ‘Irish memories by Breda’ Facebook page, a man called Jimmy Kearney shared an invoice from Quinn's Supply Stores in Edgeworthstown dated 1944.

Alongside a picture of the invoice, Jimmy explained it had been made out to his grandfather James Keary.
The post prompted a number of comments, with one noting the beautiful penmanship while another pointed out the expensive cost of nails back then.
The post also caught the attention of Quinn’s themselves who re-shared it and wrote, “A blast from the past! This original Quinn’s Supply Stores invoice is a wonderful reminder of our long history in Edgeworthstown. We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support of our customers over the generations. Here’s to many more years!”

Underneath Jimmy’s post, another person posted an invoice, this one from 1959.
The invoice for £3.90 came from Lough Ree Arms in Lanesboro.
According to the docket, the Lough Ree Arms specialised in “groceries and provisions, wine and spirits, Esso petrol and oil.”
The proprietor is listed as M.J McNally.
