A turn for the worse: Longford Gardaí catch checkpoint dodger for two offences

The driver was stopped on a backroad in Longford after allegedly trying to evade an intoxicant checkpoint
A driver who was tracked down by members of Gardaí after being spotted allegedly avoiding a checkpoint, is now set to appear before the court in the near future.
According to Gardaí, the driver was stopped on a backroad shortly after they were seen turning their car “back from a checkpoint” where mandatory intoxicant testing was being carried out at the time.
Upon being stopped, they were given a roadside oral fluid test which tested positive for cannabis.
The NCT for the car being driven by the motorist had also expired five years ago. The driver was arrested on the spot and the car seized.
The checkpoint, which was a joint operation involving the Longford and Roscommon Roads Policing Units, and additional state bodies was being carried out in Longford.
Posting about the incident on their Facebook page, Longford Gardaí wrote,
“When they turn away from a checkpoint…”
“Members from the Longford and Roscommon Roads Policing Units were conducting a mandatory intoxicant test checkpoint in conjunction with the RSA, Revenue, county council and social welfare in Longford when they saw this car turn back from checkpoint.”
The post continued, “Gardaí stopped the car on a backroad and found the NCT had expired 5 yrs. After failing a roadside oral fluid test for Cannabis, the driver was arrested. Court date to follow.”
