Man charged with assaulting gardaí in county Longford after disturbance near canal

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the assault of two gardaí in county Longford.
Gardaí attended the scene of a public order incident at Richmond Harbour, Clondra on Monday evening, July 20.
It is understood officers were called out to a reported disturbance and a man became very aggressive.
A source said a struggle ensued and one element being investigated is that he allegedly tried 'to drag them into a canal'.
The gardaí sustained some injuries, however, they are not thought to have been seriously injured.
The man is due to appear at Longford District Court next Tuesday, July 28.
A Garda spokesperson said, "A male (aged in his 50s) was arrested in connection with the investigation.
"He has since been charged and is due to appear before the Longford district court on a later date.
"Investigations ongoing."
