A rogue motorist who was caught by gardai driving while serving a 10 year ban has been handed a three month suspended prison sentence and disqualified for six years.
Vytautas Siaulys (50) of 51 Bracklin Park, Edgeworthstown pleaded guilty at Longford District Court to driving while disqualified and to having no insurance or driving licence in Granard on October 13, 2025.
Sergeant Enda Daly, for the State, said Garda Yvonne Glacken observed a 2008 black BMW vehicle being driven at Rathcronan, Granard at 8.50am on the date in question.
"She stopped the car at Church Street and made a lawful demand for the man's driving licence but he was unable to produce a driving licence.
The court heard Garda Glacken asked the driver for his name and he identified himself as the defendant.
Sgt Daly said she noticed while she was inspecting the vehicle that the insurance displayed on the car ‘had expired in January 2025’.
Sgt Daly said a lawful demand was made for Mr Siaulys' driving licence and his certificate of insurance, but he replied that he did not have the documents.
Gardaí made further enquiries and found he was disqualified from driving for 10 years arising out of a case heard at Longford District Court on April 16, 2025 for a multitude of offences and they subsequently arrested and charged him.
Solicitor Aoife Kelly, defending, said her client, a married father, had completed the Pro Social driving course in February and taken some positive steps since his detection.
The legal representative also stated Mr Siaulys had been assessed by the Probation Services and he was deemed to be at a moderate risk of reoffending.
"He is supported by his family and he has a good history of employment."
Judge Gerry Jones considered the circumstances and he decided to impose a three month prison sentence, which he suspended for two years.
Judge Jones also directed him to keep the peace and to be of good behaviour for two years and he warned him not to drive before disqualifying him for six years.
