Christmas festivities in Newtownforbes are kicking off this weekend as the big man himself is set to pay a visit to the village on Sunday. Father Christmas will make his annual trip to Newtownforbes to switch on the lights at 5:00pm this Sunday, December 8.
The organisers of the event are looking forward to the visit: “Santy will arrive in the village, with his elves on the back of his motorcycle, escorted by the Gardaí. We always have a big celebration for Christmas.”
Volunteers have been working hard putting the finishing touches for the big 'switch on'.
The festivities commence with Fr Ciaran McGovern undertaking the blessing of the crib. The organisers are hoping for a big turnout for the event: “We have a marvellous community, they are great at supporting local events.”
No only will there be a pizza stall and a pop up coffee shop, but Santa will be passing out treats and gifts to the young people in attendance.
