Eight projects that have successfully completed a 15 month mentoring programme as part of Social Enterprise Longford (SEL) will receive certificates and seed funding at a special event next Monday, July 15 in Longford EDI Centre.

The awards will be presented by Minister Seán Sherlock, who was recently appointed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny to take charge of social enterprise development nationally.

The pioneering SEL programme was set up to provide assistance to community groups and local entrepreneurs in the county and was launched in early 2012.

Commissioned by Longford Community Resources Limited, it was run by the Irish Social Finance Centre, Longford EDI Centre and Clann Credo - the Social Investment Fund, Ireland’s largest social finance provider.

It set out to identify, stimulate and develop a culture of social enterprise in Co. Longford and assist community groups in both urban and rural areas around the county.
