They are to supply nine BMS Blivet Package Sewage Treatment Systems to the Caribbean island of Montserrat

Longford based Butler Manufacturing Services (BMS) Ltd has secured a near €1 million contract to supply nine BMS Blivet Package Sewage Treatment Systems to the Caribbean island of Montserrat. The first unit was shipped in October.

The Caribbean Island of Montserrat suffered a devastating volcanic eruption in the mid 90’s that devastated a large part of the commercial/residential centre.

Since then, the Government has been working diligently to rebuild infrastructure around the relocated population.

The BMS Blivet was identified as the ideal sewage treatment solution for the island due its compactness, it ships in a standard 40 foot container, it is extremely easy to install and can be moved if required, it has very low operation and maintenance costs and it has a 35 year track record in 60 countries worldwide.

BMS shipped its first Blivet to Montserrat in 2016 and has since supplied the island with several further Blivet units.

The latest order is for a major upgrade to the island’s sewage treatment plant and is the result of many years of hard work by BMS and its partner in the region, Engage, based in Trinidad.

An interesting fact about Montserrat is that it has an enduring Irish identity due to emigration there since the 18th century. Many familiar Irish surnames are prominent on the island like Ryan and Murphy with also Irish place names like St Patrick’s. It is the only other country to have a National Holiday on St Patrick’s Day each year and their visa stamp is a shamrock.

BMS was set up in 1986 by its present Managing Director, Seamus Butler on the back of an R&D Grant to design and manufacture an innovative sewage treatment system. Few would have thought that the company would become such an outstanding success with exports to all corners of the globe.

BMS is now in its Third Generation with Tommy Butler leading sales and operations and has exported to Africa, Australia, the Caribbean, France, the USA and the UK in the last 12 months.

Tommy Butler said, “It is testament to the quality of work and innovation by the whole team at BMS, many who have been with the company for decades, that BMS continue to manufacture in Ireland and win business in Ireland and abroad, despite manufacturing in a high cost economy.”

BMS continue to invest and innovate with their Recyclone Package Vehicle Washwater Recycling System, the Recyclone generating huge interest nationally and internationally.
