Planning permission is being sought for a new retirement village development just off the Main Street of Newtownforbes.
John Mahon lodged an application earlier this month with Longford Co Council for the demolition of the existing Bohan’s Pub in the village to be replaced with a 722 square metre multi-functional centre to include a pharmacy and a doctor’s surgery.
Permission is also sought for a coffee shop and a community care centre within the same building. The retirement village will be set in some of the space created by the demolition of six sheds to the rear of Bohan’s with permission sought for 26 two bedroom single story dwellings.
Upgrades to the existing access for cars is also sought as well as a new entrance for the adjacent housing estate.
In other planning news, Nally Bros., Ballymahon lodged an application last month seeking permission to change the use of their car showroom to retail use. This portion of their building will form part of the existing convenience store and will also provide for toilets, staff facilities and storage.
The application also seeks permission for alterations to the shop front, including relocating the shop entrance and for the entire building to be finished with napped plaster. Longford Co Council have yet to rule on either application.
