‘Where’s her Longford accent?’ TRESemmé criticised over Maura Higgins' TV advert

Maura Higgins’ latest TRESemmé advert has prompted questions and criticism from viewers.

The distinctive accent of Ballymahon star Maura Higgins has long been a talking point, drawing even more attention during her appearance on the US version of The Traitors earlier this year when subtitles amused viewers by capturing her pronunciation of the words “I think” as “I tink”.

This week, her Longford accent once again become a topic of discussion with viewers questioning why it sounds noticeably different in the new TRESemmé TV advert.

Commenting on social media underneath a video of the advert, one person wrote, “Absolutely love this, but if you want Maura, why use someone else’s voice?”

Another tagged TRESemmé in their comment, writing, “Maura, where’s your lovely Irish accent gone? You’re a beautiful talented woman. No need to dub over you accent. @tresemmeuk do better”

TRESemmé has so far responded to only one comment from a viewer who questioned the advert. The user wrote, “Maura Higgins with an English accent. Looks AI tbh,” to which the brand replied, “Nope, just pure Maura.”

In a response to TRESemmé’s reply, the viewer said, “Maura has a strong Irish accent. She’s known for it. Obviously just been dubbed over with an English accent. Would have been much better to have used her own voice but thats advertising, the English accent sounds fancier.”

Other viewers also echoed previous comments, posting, “But why has she been dubbed?” and “Where’s her Longford accent?”

Ballymahon beauty, Maura, whose star is currently on a swift ascent in America, is currently preparing for her upcoming appearance on Dancing With The Stars US, which is expected to catapult her to even greater fame stateside.
