Thousands of people are to be affected by a planned water outage which will take place in Longford on Thursday.

Works are taking place that involve replacing over 5.4km of water mains in the Ballymahon area.

The works are aimed at securing the town’s water supply, reducing high levels of leakage, and supporting growth, with over 2km of mains replaced to date.

To facilitate the connection of the new pipework there will be a planned outage from 5pm until 9pm on Thursday, October 2.

This may impact customers’ supply in Ballymahon, Kilcurry, Cloonard, Toome, Clonkeen, Ballymulvey, Ballybranigan, Drinan, Moygh, Castlecore, Caroge, Glebe, Shrule, Moneyfad, Cartonboy and surrounding areas in Co. Longford

Uisce Éireann’s Dave Murphy said, “We understand the inconvenience caused by an interruption to supply. Every effort will be made to limit the impact of these essential works, and we would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and co-operation.

“Following the completion of the works, it can take two to three hours for normal water supply to return to customers as water refills the network, particularly for those properties on higher ground or at the end of the network.”
