Maura Higgins is in danger of ending the Irish challenge altogether as she goes into dance week as one the outsiders to skate off with the trophy on Dancing On Ice.

Kevin Kilbane softened the blow of his dismissal last week by getting engaged to his dance partner Brianne Delcourt, leaving the Longford Love Islander flying the flag for the Irish going into the sixth week of performances.

Her performance last week to ‘She Wolf’ by Shakira earned her a score of 28 from the judges and saw her backed into 28/1 from 33/1 by BoyleSports, but the support has been thin on the ground since and the odds say she could be in danger of the chop this weekend.

The only competitor behind Higgins in the betting is magician Ben Hanlin, who will need a trick up his sleeve to avoid the skate-off as the 50/1 outsider of the remaining hopefuls.

Perry Kiely continues to dominate at the other end of the betting and is the 1/3 from 4/6 to be crowned the winner, with former EastEnder Joe Swash now his nearest challenger at 7/2 from a massive 28/1.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Maura Higgins now has the hopes of a nation on her shoulders after Kevin Kilbane skated off last week, but if the odds are anything to go by, she could slip out of contention completely this week. Along with Ben Hanlin she’s in the biggest danger and she’ll need to get her skates on if she wants to stay in the hunt.”
