Granard puts on its dancing shoes

If the dance moves of Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey; John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John; Michael Flatley and Jean Butler; Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers electrified you in the past, well then you ain’t seen nothing yet!

Get set to have the time of your lives and have chills multiplying as Cnoc Mhuire, Granard, in association with Pat the Baker,  present a Strictly Come Dancing extravaganza as a fundraiser for the school’s football pitch.

Fifteen brave ladies and gents have offered their services to guarantee a great night’s entertainment on Friday, December 2 next in the Mullingar Park Hotel.

The school Principal, Ms Moira Mahon enthusiastically agreed to dance so that the school can have a pitch it can be proud of and has long dreamed of.

A number of parents, past pupils, retired staff and present members of staff are all on board to show off their dance prowess for this very worthy cause.

Cnoc Mhuire is very grateful to Pat the Baker for kindly sponsoring this event and indeed to the many other local businesses that have readily supported this worthwhile initiative.

Work has already begun on the pitch to redevelop it into a level, full-sized GAA pitch to host home games and to benefit the students and trainers alike for the coming decades.

Cnoc Mhuire is proud of its sporting successes over the past seventy years, winning many Vocational Schools and Leinster titles, culminating with an All-Ireland title win in March 2013.

The eagerly-awaited launch night took place in Fay’s on Friday night last where the dance partnerships were excitedly announced.

Thanks to Aaron Parker in sixth year for providing the music on the night and to Nikki’s restaurant for providing the tasty food.

Each dance pair will now work hard over the coming weeks to learn their dance moves, choreography, spins and lifts.

This promises to be a great event showcasing lots of the talent within our school and involving our local communities.

Tickets are available from the dancers, school office or any committee member.
