Longford success at Leinster Fleadh

The Leinster Fleadh Cheoil took place in Kilkenny last weekend, and it was a hugely successful one for many talented musicians, singers and story-tellers.

Members of Joe Callaghan CCÉ, John Dungan CCÉ and Newtownforbes Longford CCÉ have qualified for the All-Ireland Fleadh, which takes place in Ennis this August.

The winners were as follows:

Button Accordion U12 - Aoibhinne Lynch, 1st place.

Banjo 15-18 - Owen Smith, 1st place.

Mandolin 15-18 - Paddy Farrell,  3rd, recommended for the All-Ireland.

Piano O18 - Rachael Masterson, 2nd place.

Accompaniment 15-18  -Sinead Finnegan, 1st place.

Accompaniment O18 - Rachael Masterson, 1st place.

Bodhrán O18 - Maeve Donnelly, 1st place; Kirsten Smith, 2nd place

Céilí Band Drums U12 - Nadine Smith, 2nd place.

Céilí Band Drums O18 - Eoghan Gilchrist, 1st place; Hughie Smith, 2nd place.

Whistle Slow Airs O18 - Ciara Casey, 3rd place;

Céilí Band O18 - Abhann Glas Céilí Band, 3rd, recommended for the All-Ireland.

Lilting 15-18 - Darren Culliney, 2nd place.

Songs in English (Ladies) O18 - Aoife Mulligan, 3rd, recommended for the All-Ireland.

Story Telling 12-15 - Sarah Doyle, 2nd place.

Storytelling 15-18 - Rachael Lyons, 1st place.

Storytelling O18 - Liam Butler, 1st place.
