Last Saturday saw a novel fundraising event held in aid of the Midland Dog Welfare Group, when Louise Marie McNeill hosted a number of tarot card reading sessions.

“Louise came to my house and we hosted the sessions there,” said Gertrude Malone of the Midland Dog Welfare Group. “It was a chance for people to get together, have a cup of tea and a chat and to have a bit of fun. Lisa runs her own rescue centre for Glen of Imaal Terriers in Ballaghdereen, and she offered her services free of charge. The money raised will keep us going for a few months.”

Speaking about the work done by Midland Dog Welfare Group, Gertrude said: “We organise rescue spaces and transport to rescue accommodation for dogs from the pound if they are not rehoused. The rescue centres we work with include Inistioge Puppy Rescue in Kilkenny, Glen of Imaal Rescue in Ballaghadreen, Cara Rescue in Offaly, Fairyglen Rescue in Arigna, NWSPCA, Leitrim Animal Welfare, and Animal Connexions in the North. The number of dogs in the local pound has been reduced because of our ability to transport dogs to these facilites.”

Gertrude also pointed out that the Midland Dog Welfare Group has its own page on Faceook at www.facebook.com/MidlandDogWelfareGroup and also administer the Dog Shelter Longford Facebook page on Behalf of Longford County Council’s dog pound, which can be found at www.facebook.com/DogShelterLongford.
