In March of this year, Longford County Council called on various local groups to create public art installations for the Love Longford festival.
The second year art students of Ardscoil Phádraig rose to the challenge, creating the ‘Love Letters’ which were proudly displayed on the Market Square for the weekend.
With the woodwork teachers’ skills and the art teacher’s assistance, the students constructed life size, three dimensional letters from plywood, spelling out the word “LOVE”. Danielle Keville, Mairead Barnes, Shania Small, Niamh Harten and art teacher Ms Cooney spent most of the month of June drawing and painting the letters, trying to include as many images as possible whilst injecting a sense of fun and excitement into the project.
The group really enjoyed participating in the festival, and would like to thank arts officer Fergus Kennedy, Longford County Council for funding the project, Shelley Corcoran and Mr. Jim Behan, Manager, Longford Shopping Centre for inviting the group to display their artwork there. The group extend a special thank you to principal, Mr Buckley, Art Teacher, Ms Cooney, Woodwork teachers Mr. Breslin and Mr. Murtagh, fellow students and parents for all their support.
