Twenty-eight-year-old Stephanie Donohoe from Abbeylara won the Cavan’s Got Talent competition last Friday night at the Imperial, Cavan. The competition, which has been running for the past 11 weeks, saw Stephanie battle it out each week for the coveted title and €7,000.

Cavan’s Got Talent included a number of acts each week that took to the stage to perform in front of a live audience. It was the audience members that then decided the ultimate winners on the night by voting for their favourite acts.

Stephanie emerged successful each week and was subsequently crowned overall winner on Friday night. The event was compered by Shannonside’s Joe Finnegan with three judges on hand each week.

“I never expected to win to be honest,” a delighted Stephanie told the Leader on Monday. “It was exciting and nerve-racking, but it was great to make it through to the final of the competition and then to win it was very exciting.”

Each week, supporters packed into the Imperial to watch Stephanie and the other participants perform two songs, one of which was themed and a personal one.

Four acts successfully qualified for the final last Friday night which was judged by Paul Cox, Louise O’Reilly and Cathy Durkin. “It was tough but it was also exciting,” said Stephanie who is getting married to a Mullahoran man in seven week’s time. “I plan to record a few songs soon and hopefully put a CD together. I’m getting married in seven weeks’ time, so after that I would also like to perform with my sister at weddings and other events like that.”
