2015 is getting off to an exciting start for six local girls, as they prepare to jet off to the United States for a showcase event.
Marie Egan, Andrea Glennon, Laura Ward, Aisling Cahill, Aoife Mulhern and Jordi O’Rourke, otherwise known as Celtic Chique, will travel to New York tomorrow, Thursday, January 8. While there, they will perform at an Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) showcase, in the hope of securing a USA tour.
“The excitement actually is hard to control,” admitted the girls’ manager and teacher at Evolution Stage School, Paul Hennessy.
“[The girls] just can’t wait to get going. It seemed like it was a long way off when we started talking about it.”
In a fifteen minute showcase, the girls will perform for presenters and buyers from all over America, who will gather in the New York Hilton for the event, which Paul describes as ‘a trade show for shows and performing arts’.
Taking excerpts from their new show ‘Celtic Homeland’, the girls will perform shortened versions of ‘Ride on’, ‘Summerfly’, ‘I dreamed a dream’, ‘Carrickfergus’, ‘Feet of a dancer’, ‘You raise me up’ and ‘Isle of hope’, which will also feature a vocal performance by Paul himself.
Adding that they are all looking forward to the event, Paul extended a sincere thanks to the sponsors who made the trip possible, including; Longford County Council, Begley’s Bar Killoe, Hotel Castlepollard, Optimum Events, Hairsquare, Black Olive Restaurant, Glennon Bros, Zara Hair Design, Pizza Hut Longford, Donnelly Antiques Mullingar, Strokestown Hardware, Barry’s Chemist Delvin/Castlepollard, Heatons & Sportsworld, Cllr Mick Cahill, Railway Bar, John McKeon Drinks Wholesaler, Finn Motors Ballymahon, D&P Murphy Hardware Castlepollard, Gem Group and Matthews Audio Visual.
The showcase is an exciting move for the talented group, who have only been together since 2012.
They have a number of prestigious performances behind them, including an appearance at the National Concert Hall in October 2014, and their second performance at the Console concert in St Patrick’s Church, Maynooth last November but they look certain to build on that success in 2015.
