Building on the success of last year’s event, the Mohill Jazz Festival returns this weekend, and it promises to be better than ever.
The third edition of the popular Co Leitrim music festival will get underway on Friday night, August 9 in the marquee at the Butter Market, where the Down and Out Bluegrass Band will be the main attraction.
Saturday will feature all-day jam sessions, face-painting and other fun activities at the marquee. There will also be daytime sessions in J’s Hotel, while the highlight of the day will be the gala concert featuring the Greasy Coat String Band, Down and Out, and Hard Station - whose late member Vinny Baker is being commemorated at this year’s festival.
More sessions will take place throughout the day on Sunday. Aras Carolan for residents, family and friends, the festival Marquee will host live jamming sessions, while Down and Out will play J’s Hotel. The main attraction on Sunday night will the grand finale concert in O’Brien’s, which will cap what is sure to be a fantastic weekend.
Another feature of this year’s festival will be the bluegrass gospel mass in St Patrick’s Church at 8pm on Saturday evening, with a similar ceremony being held the following morning at 11am in St Mary’s Church of Ireland.
