One Direction mania hit Longford last week, as fans of the boyband spent the night outside the Music Centre, Longford in the hope of securing a seat to one of the boys’ Croke Park dates in May 2014.

The tickets, which went on sale at 10am on Saturday May 25th, were expected to sell quickly, so many dedicated fans camped out to ensure their presence in the Dublin venue. Fans queued up overnight, with some settling down for the long wait as early as 3.30pm on Friday afternoon. However, Debra from the Music Centre explained that it was not unexpected, adding “everyone had a good night, they had a laugh”. Happily, all those who camped out were rewarded for their dedication, as everyone walked away with their tickets for the event, and memories of the night spent camping on the streets of Longford town.

One Direction, featuring Mullingar singer Niall Horan, shot to fame on the X Factor in 2010, and have since been captivating fans young and old with their particular brand of pop music. Niall and his bandmates; Liam, Harry, Zayn and Louis, will play Croke Park on May 24th and 25th next year. Both dates sold out in less than two hours, setting a new record for ticket sales in Ireland.
