Tidy Towns and the artists of Longford have come together in support of the people of Newtowncashel following the destruction of the village’s beloved sculptures.
An art exhibition and auction is to be held in Cooney’s Hotel, Ballymahon on Friday, November 29, with all proceeds going to Newtowncashel Tidy Towns. The auction starts at 9pm, and Deputy Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan will act as celebrity auctioneer on the night.
To date more than 25 artists have committed themselves to supporting the cause, including; Michael Casey and his son Kevin; Breege Cassidy from Kenagh; Pat Hourican; and Loretta Cooney from Abbeyshrule. Other contributions include a body of work from the ‘Brushstrokes’ Art Group in Lanesboro, coordinated by Denis Devereaux; Patrick Taaffe from Ballymahon; Frances Kellegher; Emma Keegan; and John Nankivel.
The Ballymahon Tidy Towns Taskforce which is coordinating the auction wish to thank all involved for their remarkable generosity and the individual artists are all to be commended. Thanks also go to Fergus Kennedy, Longford Arts Officer and Andy O’Dowd of Longford Tidy Towns for their support. For more information or to get involved call 087-1917933.
