Uisce Éireann set to install 7km of new water main as part of major Longford project

Uisce Éireann said the next phase of the project is a 7.2km stretch to Abbeyshrule Water Treatment Plant that is due to begin over the coming days
Uisce Éireann is continuing with installing more than 7km of water main up to the Abbeyshrule Water Treatment Plant as part of its major water mains replacement project in the area to reduce high levels of leakage and improve supply reliability.
The water utility has completed the installation of over 800 meters of modern water mains from Lisnadreenagh Cross on the N55 to Legan Village.
Uisce Éireann said the next step is the 7.2km stretch up to Abbeyshrule Water Treatment Plant, which is due to begin over the coming days, and these 'new, modern pipes will strengthen the local network and reduce disruption' to homes and businesses.
The water utility said the existing pipes were prone to bursts and leaks, leading to supply interruptions and the loss of treated drinking water, a valuable resource that people depend on.
Dave Murphy of Uisce Éireann said that these upgrades will help stop leakage and give the community in Abbeyshrule greater confidence in their water supply for years to come.
“This next phase builds on previous progress and highlights ongoing investment in this area.
"Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on. “

Mr Murphy added, "These improvements make a difference every single day, in every tap, home and throughout the community.
"By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we’re helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Longford, now and for generations to come.”
Uisce Éireann said work will begin in the coming days on this next phase and will include installing new water service connections from the public water main on the road to customers’ property boundaries and linking them to the customers’ water supply.
The project is being delivered by Ward & Burke on behalf of Uisce Éireann with completion expected by the end of this year.
Uisce Éireann said customers can phone 1800 278 278 if they have any questions about the project or visit the Water Supply Updates section of the Uisce Éireann website for regular updates.
