A local councillor has called on Longford County Council to review and resolve the current situation at Barley harbour whereby those who come to visit the area during the fine weather 'will park in a uncoordinated way making life difficult and impossible for the local people to use the harbour'.

The motion is being brought forward by Fine Gael Councillor Martin Skelly at Wednesday's monthly meeting of Ballymahon Municipal District.

Mr Skelly is a local resident who has land near Barley harbour and he has considerable first hand knowledge of the issues involved.

Cllr Skelly described the situation in his motion as being one which urgently needs to be resolved.

"As Longford Co council are now the long term leaseholders it is their responsibility to ensure that the current rules and regulations are enforced and proper markings are put in place so that they will be no doubt in people’s minds as to where you can and cannot park.

"This is a matter of urgency and must be resolved asap before a major disaster happens."
