Peter Regan from Lanesboro will be at the centre of a special evening of classical piano music at St John’s Church in Longford Town on Friday next, May 24. The special event will also feature a performance from the internationally-acclaimed pianist John O’Conor, while violinist Phoebe White will also provide accompaniment on the night.

Studying piano since the age of 8, Peter has progressed to become one of the country’s brightest young musical talents. Now studying under O’Conor, he has already won several prestigious awards and performed for President Michael D Higgins at Áras An Uachtaráin. He has also performed across Europe with the Young European Strings Orchestra, including a special concert at the house of the famous Hungarian composer, Zoltán Kodály.

“John O’Conor has been a huge influence on me,” Peter said when asked about the opportunity to perform in public alongside such a luminary figure.

“Like him, I hope to become a top class musician giving solo recitals, whilst also incorporating a role as a tutor. It would be great to follow in his footsteps.”

O’Conor formerly served as a director of the Royal Irish Academy of Music and teaches masterclasses at numerous world-famous institutions, including Harvard and Yale universities in the USA, the Hamamatsu Piano Academy in Japan, and the Guildhall School of Music in England. He has also given recitals at some of the world’s most famous music halls, including the Lincoln Centre, the South Bank Centre and the Dvorak.

Tickets for this special evening can be purchased from Frank Regan by phoning 043 33 50000. Tickets are being sold at Dennistons music shop in Longford town or call 086-3560408.
