Last year Decadent Theatre Company toured Conor McPhearson’s The Seafarer to much acclaim scooping up an Irish Times Theatre Award along the way. This year they return with another McPhearson classic “Port Authority” which stunningly shines a light on ordinary lives.

Directed by Andrew Flynn, the show follows the story of three seemingly unconnected characters; a young man who has just moved out for the first time to live with a motley crew, a middle-aged man played by Phelim Drew, who has just landed the job of his dreams, or is it? And Joe an elderly man in a retirement home who reveals an event in his life which shook him to his core. Joe is played by Garett Keogh, who you may remember played Frankie McCafferty’s character’s blind brother so excellently in The Seafarer.

According to Peter Crawley of the Irish Times director Andrew Flynn “is fast becoming an authority on McPherson’s Ireland” and this production is most certainly one for those who appreciate good drama.

Port Authority comes to Backstage Theatre tonight (Wednesday 14th) at 8:30pm. Tickets cost $16/$14 and are available on 043 33 47888 or www.backstage.ie.
