Audio: General Seán MacEoin

Listen to General Seán MacEoin reading his opening statement from the British Court Martial convened after his arrest in Mullingar in March 1921, when he was charged with the murder of an RIC Inspector.

This recording was made during the 1950s for the Bureau of Military History, with Genaral MacEoin reading the speech from the court’s records. At this time he was a TD for the Longford-Westmeath constituency in Dáil Éireann, where he served as Minister for Justice (February 1948 - March 1951) and Minister for Defence (March-June 1951, and June 1954 - March 1957).
