Here are the news headlines for Wednesday, 13 June.

Longford County Council has given the go-ahead to demolish an apartment block at the Gleann Riada estate, one of the 128 unfinished housing estates in Co Longford.

Workers at Bord na Mona in Lanesboro are to embark upon in industrial action later this month. Staff are objecting to the terms of the deal which held out the prospect of a 1.75 percent pay increase, but only on a performance-related basis. There are fears the impasse could lead to job losses.

A mini torando hit Lansboro on Sunday. Eye-witnesses even reported seeing a trampoline twirling through the air and landing on top of a parked car two miles outside the town at around midday. No one was hurt or injured as a result of the conditions.

In sport, after their crushing one-point defeat in Tullamore last Sunday, Longford now face into the long walk of the qualifiers, the first round of which is schedueled for Saturday 30 June. The draw will take place on Monday at 8.30am and will be braodcast on RTE’s Morning Ireland show.
