Towns Cup win for Longford RFC

Newstalk Provincial Towns Cup Longford RFC 19 Gorey 7

Longford RFC enjoyed a winning opening to this seasons Provincial Towns Cup on Sunday.

Fellow Leinster League Division 2 outfit Gorey were the visitors to the Demesne.

Longford always looked to be the superior team, but it wasn't until the second half that the home side really showed their dominance.

Player coach, Colm Glynn was the main points scorer for Longford with a personal tally of fourteen points.

That was made up of three penalties, a drop goal and a conversion.

Paul Gallogly got the all important Longford try in the first half, but at the break there was only three points between the sides, with Longford leading 10-7.

It was Glynn's accuracy with the boot that allowed Longford to extend the lead in the second half and some resolute Longford defense keep Gorey scoreless from half-time.

After the game Colm Glynn gave his reaction to the win to the Leader's Fintan Duffy
