Longford Town duo Noel Haverty and Keith Gillespie have both been selected in this year’s Professional Footballers’ Association of Ireland (PFAI) First Division Team of the Year.

Both players helped Town to third place in this year’s Airtricity League First Division, 12 points off eventual winners Limerick. This saw Tony Cousins’ side qualify for a two-leg promotion/relegation play-off against Waterford United, the first leg of which saw the Flancare Park outfit suffer a 2-0 defeat.

This year’s team, which is voted for by players from the Airtricity League First Division features five players from champions Limerick, three from runners-up Waterford, two from Longford and one from Athlone Town.

Meanwhile, Waterford’s Gary Dempsey and Sean Maguire along with Limerick’s Rory Gaffney were nominated for the First Division Player of the Year. Maguire also features in the League’s Young Player of the Year category.

The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 10th at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin.
