Longford Town duo Keith Gillespie and Noel Haverty have both been selected on the 2012 Professional Footballers’ Association of Ireland (PFAI) First Division Team of the Year.
Both players helped the Town to third place in Airtricity League First Division this season, 12 points off eventual title winners Limerick. This saw Tony Cousins’ side qualify for a two-leg promotion/play-off against the runners-up Waterford United, the first leg of which saw the Flancare Park outfit suffer a 2-0 home defeat. The Town drew 1-1 in the second leg at the RSC on Friday night last as their hopes of reaching the Premier Division next season were eventually dashed.
The 2012 team, which is voted for by players from the Airtricity League First Division, features five players from champions Limerick, three from Waterford, two from Longford Town and one from Athlone Town.
Meanwhile, Waterford’s Gary Dempsey and Sean Maguire along with Limerick’s Rory Gaffney were nominated for the First Division Player of the Year. Maguire also features in the League’s Young Player of the Year category.
The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 10th in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin.

PFAI First Division Team of the Year: Packie Holden (Waterford United); Brian McCarthy (Athlone Town), Pat Purcell (Limerick), Shane Tracey (Limerick), Noel Haverty (Longford Town); Keith Gillespie (Longford Town), Gary Dempsey (Waterford United), Joe Gamble (Limerick), Stephen Bradley (Limerick); Rory Gaffney (Limerick), Sean Maguire (Waterford United).
