Peter Reilly, originally from Dromard but now living in Lisduff, has not been shy about displaying his support for Trap’s army this summer, writes Conor Neville.

Not only has he embarked upon the arduous, and not exactly well trodden, journey from Lisduff to Poznan, but he has dyed his hair green, white and orange in the process.

Unburdened with match tickets, he set off on Thursday morning at 6am, eventually completing the 36-hour trek to Poznan. There, he has mingled with Irish, Croatians, Polish, and the FAI President. He has effortlessly secured tickets for Ireland’s group games, aided somewhat, as you’ll find out, by his beguiling hairstyle. He also became the star on the RTE Six One News on Sunday evening. He has succeeding in meeting the odd Longford party along the way.

Though he has frequented the Aviva (and the old Landsdowne Road) on many occasions to witness Irish quailifing matches, this is the first time he has travelled to a major tournament, (he agreed, before he left, that attempting to travel to USA ‘94 and Korea/Japan 2002 by van would have presented with insurmountable difficulties). Should Ireland achieve the by now seemingly impossible and clamber out of their group he has vowed to hop across to Ukraine to catch the Quarter-Finals.
