George McDermott has come through the under-age development

The steady progress of Longford RFC Senior First XV over the last four years is in no small part thanks to their head coach Colm Glynn. One of the other planks that has assisted this progress is the development of the under-age players.

Longford hoping to win the Towns Cup for a historic first time

After five months of bruising encounters the destination of the 88th Towns Cup will be decided in Edenderry next Sunday. Tullamore take to the pitch for their seventh final looking for a fourth title, Longford are in their second final looking for a historic first win.

Wonderful season for Longford

Who could not but agree that 2013 is indeed a wonderful year so far for Longford Rugby Club. It is without doubt their own “Annus Mirabilis”. To start with Longford RFC have reached the Provincial Towns Cup Final for the first time since the club was reformed in 1967. There will be another historic occasion for the club in July this year when Pat Fitzgerald, representing Longford RFC, will become the next President of the I.R.F.U. He will be the first Junior Club representative ever to hold this office.

This Sunday Longford RFC contest their first Towns Cup final since 1932. Having knocked out the title holders Enniscorthy along the way, Longford have tread an interesting path with a fair few close encounters. The team has progressed steadily through the season and the Towns Cup final appearance is a fitting reward.
