Seven teams through to the quarter-finals

With the final round of fixtures in the league stage of the Senior Football Championship remaining, seven teams are already through to the quarter-finals and therefore the most interesting game this weekend is the meeting of Mostrim and Ballymahon.

The Edgeworthstown side are currently in ninth position in the table having lost all their three games played to date against Dromard, Abbeylara and Killoe but can still qualify for the knock-out stages of the Connolly Cup by scoring a big win over Ballymahon.

Mostrim could pip Fr. Manning Gaels, who are facing a tough task against Dromard, but a swing of some sixteen points in the scores difference will be required if Gerry Lynn’s side are to make it through to the last eight in the likely scenario that the Gaels will be beaten.

As Longford Slashers, Killoe, Clonguish, Colmcille, Abbeylara, Mullinalaghta and Dromard have all reached the quarter-finals, it is hard to get excited about the other fixtures in Round 4 but at least the county champions are facing their first real serious test against St. Columba’s after cruising to wins over the three weakest teams in the senior championship – Sean Connolly’s, Ballymahon and Killashee.
