Man-of-the-match Sean McCormack rises to the big occasion

In the last few years Sean McCormack has shown he certainly is a player for the big occasions and on Sunday the forward was in inspirational form as his 9 points helped Emmet Og to the County title.
McCormack’s play earned him the man-of-the-match award. He was delighted with the award but the win was the most important thing for him. “I’ll cherish this award for a long time. But this is really just a bonus. The cup was the big one for us all. I’m so glad we were able to do it. I’ve just been blessed that I had no major injuries this year and got a nice run,” he told the Leader.
The forward admitted that after the drawn game he felt his side has maybe left it behind them; missing several scoring opportunities: “I was very annoyed, personally myself. I came home thinking we missed opportunities. As the week goes on you sort of say to yourself ‘you have an opportunity to make amends.’ I’m just glad we were able to do it today; even though it wasn’t looking good at times.”
After Slashers had gone ahead by two points in the early stages of the second half, Killoe hit five points in a row; four of them from McCormack. He was happy with his contribution: “Adrenaline does be flowing at that stage and I was glad to get the scores. We just had the momentum. I thought when we were three points ahead we might have been able to finish off the game but Slashers came back at us and they then went a point ahead and then Daniel Mimnagh kicked a super score. I don’t think we ever looked back after that.”
McCormack and his team-mates have now written their names in the history book; something that pleases him: “This is a dream for me to win a championship. You grow up under your peers and hear about the ’95 team, ’93 and ’88 and so on. It hasn’t sunk in yet. I’m so glad that I’m a part of this with my friends and lads I have grown up with.”
With every game there has to be a winner and a loser and Sean McCormack praised Slashers for the standard they had set: “Slashers are a fantastic team. For the last two years they have really raised the bar. Everyone had to raise their game and go beyond that again. We knew we had to work extremely hard. I’m close friends with a lot of the Slashers lads; they are great competitors and I wish them all the best for the future.”
