Longford ladies far too strong for Louth

The Longford ladies scored a convincing win against a Louth side that lacked fitness and cohesion in the opening National Football League Division 4 game at a wet Emmet Park, Killoe on Sunday last.
Longford started in a business like fashion and went about the task of securing a win when Anne Marie Bratten opened the scoring in the first minute with a point from play and this was increased when Paula Kenny landed another fine strike from play with a superb point.
Louth were finding the pace of the game above them and could not get the better of exchanges in the middle of the park where Paula Kenny and Claire Greene were dictating matters and the Longford girls had another 2-4 on the scoreboard through Michelle Noonan (0-1), A M Bratten (0-2), C. Greene (1-1)and substitute Denise Murtagh (1-0).
Murtagh had virtually just took up her position at full-forward replacing Anna McDonnell when she collected a fumbled drop by the Louth full-back Andrea Carney to blast the ball to the net to leave the score 2-6 to 0-0 with twenty five minutes gone in the first half.
Louth opened their account in the 27th minute with Jenny McGuinness scoring a point from play and two more scores came through poor defending in the 29th and 30th minute when Grace Lynch and Emma Conlon got their names on the scoresheet to leave the half-time score reading 2-6 to 0-3 in favour of the home county.
