Longford crush Offaly in opening league game
Longford . . . . . 2-15 Offaly . . . . . 0-8
Longford made a great start to the National Football League Division 3 campaign when they scored a most emphatic 13 points win over a poor Offaly side in the Round 1 clash at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday.
A well-taken goal from Paul Kelly in the closing stages of the first half gave the home county a decisive edge as they ended up leading by 1-6 to 0-6 at the break and things went from bad to worse for Offaly on the changeover.
Longford dominated the second half in adding another 1-9 to their tally with substitute Niall Mulligan firing home the goal with time running out.
Particularly prominent in the scoring stakes was full-forward Sean McCormack with the impressive total of ten points (9 frees) to his credit and Longford’s next league game is against neighbouring rivals Cavan in Breffni Park on Saturday evening next.
