Killoe overcame arch rivals Clonguish on Sunday last in an enthralling top four league final played at Michael Fay Park to claim their 5th league title in a row.

Killoe opened the scoring with a point from Sabrina Hackett after 2 minutes. This was followed with further points from Niamh Devaney and Fiona Fox. Clonguish’s first score came from Aoife Darcy on 7 minutes, followed closely with another from Aisling Greene. Clonguish were denied a number of goal chances by the woodwork while Aoife Darcy was denied with a cracking shot from a free right in front of the posts.

Killoe then went on a scoring spree over the next 5 minutes with points from Edel Quinn (3), Sabrina Hackett, Ann Marie Bratten and Anna McDonnell before Clonguish closed the gap with a goal from Aoife Darcy after 20 minutes. Killoe finished out the first half with goals from Bratten and Hackett to hold a commanding 2-9 to 1-2 lead at the break.

After just 30 seconds of the restart, Bratten scored Killoe’s third goal and 2 minutes later Aisling Greene got a goal for Clonguish and Aoife Darcy followed with two further points. But 12 minutes into the second half Clonguish suffered a blow when Darcy had to be replaced after she sustained a shoulder injury. Una Flynn was now in the play for Clonguish. Oonagh Shanley, Clonguish and Sabrina Hackett, Killoe then exchanged points.

In the last quarter Killoe were guilty of some bad wides while also trying for goals when possibly points were the better option. Aisling Greene and Una Flynn got two further points for Clonguish with Jacinta Brady finishing the game with a point for Killoe.

The league final cup was presented to Killoe captain Edel Quinn by Marie Matthews and Edel also received the player of the match award.

Clonguish are outright winners of Division 1 League

It has been clarified that Clonguish ladies are the outright Division 1 League winners as they finished top of the League table. The final of the secondary competition was played on Sunday last.

This competition is something similar to the Leader Cup competition in which the men take part in. It consisted of the top 4 teams playing 2 semi-finals and a final. Killoe were presented with the new cup for this competition and Clonguish received the Division 1 League cup.
