Longford Slashers captured their first county Minor hurling title in ten years after they outscored Clonguish Gaels in an entertaining contest at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Bank Holiday Monday last.

Despite dominating the second half exchanges Clonguish were unable to find enough scores in the closing minutes to force the game into extra-time. The Town club had their leading talisman Cian Kavanagh to thank for this notable victory. Kavanagh put in a terrific shift over the hour and finished up with a personal tally of 1-5.

Clonguish trailed by just one point at the half time interval. A brace of points from Cian Kavanagh put Slashers into an early lead but Clongish responded when then grabbed a fortuitous goal after a long range free from Ronan Duffy somehow found its way into the Slashers net.
After the break, Clonguish pilled on the pressure with three long range frees from Ronan Duffy, Slashers nonetheless refused to be denied their first minor title in over a decade and made certain their victory after Conal Murphy fired home their third and final goal of this enjoyable Minor Hurling Final.
