An avid promoter of the Club’s Plotto sales over a long number of years her friendly smile and gentle disposition will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Ar dheis De go raibh a hanam dilis.The Club holds its first meeting of the current year on Thursday January 17th in the Handball Sports Centre at 9pm. All officers and Committee members are requested to attend as there are important matters held over from the A.G.M. to be debated and decided on. A Table Quiz will take place in Crawford’s Lounge and Bar on Friday night next commencing at 9.45pm; tables of four 40 euro. Your support will be much appreciated.

BALLYMAHON: The weekly Lotto draw did not take place on Sunday night as some books were not returned in time so it was deferred until Monday night. Could I ask promoters doing collections if unable to collect that they ask someone else to do the job on that particular night. Ballymahon/Forgney underage meeting will take place on Saturday next January 19th at 6-30pm in the clubhouse. All parents and all interested in underage activity and feel they have something to contribute and are willing to get involved are asked to come along. All are very welcome to attend. This is an open invitation. There was a well attended club meeting on Saturday night last when the following positions were filled. Pro PJ Walsh, Board Delegate Mikey Farrell. Senior Selectors Jim Kenny, Mark Mulvihill, Enda Duncan. Division 3 manager Willie Dowler Jun. This is my last notes for the club and our new pro will be reporting from now on. Our Registrar James Farrell is busy collecting membership which is now due and the onus is very much on the players in particular to pay up. Thanks to all and wish all a good year ahead.

CLONGUISH: Our first monthly meeting took place this year on Saturday evening last and was well attended. The club secretary and club treasurer positions on the club executive have now been filled by Emma Flynn and Derek Nolan respectively. Club membership is now being collected and all patrons are asked to have membership paid by 31st March. John Geelan Mobile 086-3229566 and Dessie Rogers Mobile 087-4167104 are both collecting the membership money this year and can be contacted by mobile for same. John and Dessie also plan to call to houses within the parish with membership cards and you support would be greatly appreciated. The membership rates for 2013 are 50 euro for family membership and 30 euro for individuals. Our white collar boxing night is just around the corner and will be held in the PJ Murphy Memorial Hall at 8pm on Saturday 26th January. Preparations are heating up nicely both inside and outside the ring with all boxers training diligently for the night. A full list of fighters shall be listed in next week’s notes. Tickets go on sale from this week and are 10 euro. Under 18’s can pay on the door and will be charged 5 euro. On the night there shall be a full bar with disco music till late. The club’s next monthly meeting will take place on Saturday evening, 8th February at 8pm in the Ralph room. The Minor Clubs A.G.M. will take place on Friday 1st February in the Ralph Room at 8pm. Congratulations to the Clonguish Junior Scor question time team which came second last Saturday in the Leinster Final. The team was Ciaran Madden, Dearbhaile Madden and Veronica Breslin and they should be very proud of their achievement. The Finals took place in the Eirns Isle Gaa Centre, Finglas, Dublin. After a very close contest our team eventually lost out to a very strong Maynooth team representing Kildare. Westmeath and Offaly were also involved. Thanks to their mentors Tommy Nevin and Kevin Burke for their help in preparing the team over the past months. Thanks also to the Minor Club on their sponsorship for the team on the day. The club Lotto Draw took place in Casey’s this week and there were no winners of the Jackpot. The numbers drawn were 8, 24, 26, 27. Weekly winners were as follows: 100 euro B. Conway, Dowra, 25 euro Thomas Ford, Dowra, 25 euro Teresa Devith. Next week’s draw takes place in McGowans. Jackpot for next week is 3350 euro. The club extends its sympathies to the McGinn family, Briskill on their recent bereavement.

Next draw in Gallagher’s Bar on January 21st, Jackpot 2000 euro. Our annual social night will take place in Dillon’s Ballinamuck on Saturday, January 26th. Dinner and Live music on the night. Tickets priced at 10 euro each are available from any executive member. The club extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the late Tom Ginty, Ballinamuck. Tom was a great Gaels supporter and served as treasurer on the executive. May he rest in peace.

GRANARD ST. MARY’S: Our junior set dancers took part in the Leinster Scor na nOg Finals last Saturday in Erins Isle club in Dublin and put in a great performance. They didn’t win but did themselves and Granard proud, congratulations to Gary Kenny, Pamela Szwed, Aaron Brady, Rachel Cassidy, Velin Kolev, Aideen Kiernan, Emmanual Ayorinde, Erin McAndrew and Chantelle Sullivan on a great achievement on getting to this Leinster final. Well done to Longford U-21’s on their recent wins (over Roscommon and Wicklow) and our three representatives Darren Gallagher (back after a serious injury), Vinny Nally and Charlie Martin. Club membership is still open and can be paid to Grace Kearney or Peter Sheridan. Membership costs 50 euro (including insurance) for players, 30 euro for students (also includes insurance) and 20 euro for ordinary members. There was no winner of last week’s Glotto draw held in the clubhouse and the winning numbers were 2, 9, 17 and 27. The 30 euro winners were Ciaran Walsh, Granard; Gerry Creegan, Granard and Colleen Norris, Clonbroney, Ballinalee. Thanks to everyone who continues to support the Glotto and the A and B Bingo held in the Community Hall every week in aid of the Abbeylara and Granard clubs. Our Minor A.G.M. has been moved to 27th January, more details in next week’s notes.

KILLOE YOUNG EMMETS: The annual dinner dance will take place this Saturday night the 19th January in the Longford Arms Hotel. Music is by Pascal, Davy and Liz. Tickets are selling fast with only a few remaining and are priced at 30 euro each. Due to the large amount of medals to be presented on the night the meal will be served at 8pm sharp. All those attending are asked to be seated at 7.45pm sharp. KILLASHEE ST. BRIGID’S: We held our follow-up Club Development on Friday evening last. It was great to see such a good turnout, with so many interested people in the club’s development in attendance. The groups set up on the night are hoping to meet within the next week or so. If anyone who wasn’t in attendance is interested in getting involved in this initiative please get in touch with Owen Johnston or Amanda Stewart. Our Lotto draw which took place in Magan’s Bar, Killashee on Sunday night last. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were: 3, 10, 11 and 17. First Aid personnel for all their hard work during the year Martin Mulvey, Seamus McGuire. A special presentation was made to Pat Cahill to mark his 5 year term as county board chairman. The Hall of Fame award was presented to Jody McGuire for his lifetime dedication to Carrickedmond GAA. Jody played for many years with the club and after his playing days he held many positions on the executive. A presentation of a bouquet of flowers was made to his wife Nancy. The club are grateful to new county board chairman Brendan Gilmore and his wife Ann for attending our dance and to Brendan for making all the presentations. Congratulations to all who received awards. The club presented a cheque for 1,350 euro to Brendan Quigley, representing St Christopher’s. This was collected at the charity match on St. Stephen’s Day. Many thanks to all who supported this very worthy cause. Many thanks to all who sponsored prizes for our raffle. LEGAN SARSFIELDS: Our Annual General Meeting takes place this Friday night January 18th in the Clubhouse at 8pm sharp. All officers, players and supporters of the Club are asked to attend. Anyone with matters of interest or issues of concern can have them discussed at this forum. All welcome. Training for the forthcoming season has resumed and will continue on Sunday mornings at 10am. Results of last week’s Lotto draw held in Mitchell’s. Numbers drawn were 6, 11, 14 and 18. There was no jackpot winner. Match three winners of 100 euro were Luke and Chris Coghlan.

RATHCLINE: Club membership is now open to everyone for the 2013 season. Prices are as follows: 20 euro for non-playing members and 50 euro for players. Peter Skelly will be accepting payment for all non-playing members and Ryan Fallon will be doing likewise with our Club players. Closing date for receipt of membership money is 31st March. There is only one more week left to buy a ticket for the annual New Year’s draw which takes place on Saturday 19th Jan in Adies Bar at 11pm. Tickets are in circulation around the parish and beyond and are priced at 20 euro. There are ten fantastic cash prizes as follows: 1st Prize: 3,000 euro, 2nd Prize: 1,000 euro, 3rd Prize: 750 euro, 4th Prize: 500 euro, 5th Prize: 250 euro, 6th Prize to 10th Prize: 200 euro. The team take on Kildare in two weeks time in the Leinster Final. It was one Saturday which Shane Kenny will never forget – read on! Pride of Parish – Congratulations to the Shannon Gaels Scór na nÓg Novelty act team who qualified for the All-Ireland Final at Saturday’s Leinster Final at Erin’s Isle GAA club in Finglas. The team has built on the success of last year’s Leinster final to go one step further in search of All-Ireland Glory. This achievement marks a fantastic milestone in the history of Shannon Gaels. Team members include: Dearbhail Flood, Shane Kenny, Lauren Guinan, Niall Keane, Laura and Anna Peters, Andrew Ward and Jack O’Loughlin. They have done our club, parish and county proud. A very special recognition must go to Maura Tobin who has coached the team to success. The team has six weeks to prepare for the All-Ireland Final which will be held in Derry City on Saturday 23rd February. Once again, congratulations to all concerned.

SHROID SLASHERS: The annual club draw took place on the 20th December in the Tally Ho Bar. The winners on the night were: 1st prize Jason McCormack, 2nd prize Dolores Nulty, 3rd prize Vincent Reynolds, other prize winners were, Tommy Donohoe, Lea J Shannon and John Duffy. The club wish to thank everyone who bought tickets, and also a big thank you to all the ticket sellers. The draw raises much needed funds to help run the club. The club A GM takes place on Friday 18th January at 8pm in the club house, players and members will be notified by text during the week. New members are very welcome.

MINOR-ST. PATRICK’S OG: The St. Patrick’s Og AGM will take place on Friday 18th January at 8.30pm in the Clubrooms. We would urge all parents and anyone interested in getting involved with the Club to attend. New members also welcome. Presentation of medals to U-15 team will take place in the GAA clubhouse on Friday 25th of January at 8.30pm. We hope to see all players and family members in attendance.
