Cavan overcome Longford in Hastings Cup U-21 Final

Cavan . . . . . 2-15 Longford . . . . . 2-10

(After Extra-Time)

It took extra-time to eventually decide the outcome in the Hastings Cup U-21 Football Tournament Final played in front of a big crowd at Lynch Park in Abbeylara on Saturday and after the sides were deadlocked at 2-8 apiece at the end of normal time, it was Cavan who finished the stronger to emerge victorious by five points in the finish.

Trailing by two points with time running out, Longford hit the front with a goal from defender Darragh Bennett and looked the likely winners of the U-21 title but Cavan snatched a draw when substitute Nevin O’Donnell shot over the bar in the 60th minute.

Cavan then took over completely in the extra-time period, outscoring Longford 0-7 to 0-2 to run out worthy winners of the Hastings Cup.
