St. Mel's senior footballers proved far too strong for Moyne Community School in this completely one-sided McGee Cup game at the Killoe grounds on Tuesday of last week and it was all over as a contest at half-time at which stage the Longford College had built up a commanding 1-7 to 0-1 lead.

St. Mel's opened the scoring on the changeover with a close range free but Moyne managed to close the gap when Brian Ellis fired home a well-taken goal two minutes into the second half while moment later Gerry Caddem slotted over a point.
Four points were then exchanged with Mark Hughes and Michael Farrell on target for St. Mel's while Niall Woods and Sean McCabe fired over the Moyne scores. However, the Longford College ran riot during the remainder of the game in adding another 3-5 to their most emphatic tally.
Two of the goals were scored by the deadly accurate Mark Hughes who was very impressive for St. Mel's in clocking up a personal total of 3-7 which was some achievement. Other points were scored by Darren Quinn (2) and Morgan Kelly while Ryan Murray grabbed the final goal in the closing minutes of the game.
St. Mel's must now wait to find out their opponents in the McGee Cup Final and are the firm favourites to win the County Post-Primary Schools Senior Football title. Apart from man-of-the-match Mark Hughes, others to figure prominently in the runaway win over Moyne were Conor Clarke, Michael Farrell and Liam Connerton.
