BEST WISHES: For a very happy and peaceful New Year to all readers of these notes. The writer looks forward to including any matters of interest sent in before 8p.m. on Sunday evenings.

CONGRATULATIONS: - To all who took part in the choir at Boherquill Masses on Christmas Eve and Christmas. I believe this was organised by Sinead Duffy, daughter of Kieran and Gretta who recently qualified as a teacher in St. Patrick’s Training College, Drumcondra, Dublin and was doing temporary teaching in the School where she got her primary education. We have no doubt she will be a great and popular teacher.

CHARITY WALK: - As mentioned in our Boherquill Ramblers section of these notes there was over 100 walkers who walked and supported the Annual St. Stephens Day walk in Mullaghmeen organised as each year by Margaret Smith, Hammondstown, Castlepollard . Everyone got wet through and through but it was for a worthy cause. Perhaps the outing might encourage a few people to join our Boherquill Ramblers walks which take place every Sunday]. See these notes weekly for details or www.irelandwalking.ie. All welcome.

STREEEWALKWAY: - At the Parish Park was very busy at the weekend and enjoyed by many. We regret the lights went out one night due to a power cut brought on by severe weather. A new different type time clock has been ordered and will be fitted by Willie Campbell to make sure this does not happen again. All are welcome to use the track and there is no charge but it would be greatly appreciated if you could purchase a Lotto envelope.

BOHERQUILL RAMBLERS: - A hardy group of Ramblers turned out in Mullaghmeen Forest on St. Stephen’s Day for the annual after-Christmas walk. Heavy rain and a cold wind failed to deter the walkers, but everyone was keen to get home after the walk to change into dry clothes. Just four days later. Ballynacargy was the venue for the next Ramblers Sunday afternoon walk, another break from the hectic Christmas and New Year celebrations. On the first Sunday of the New Year, January 6th, the Ramblers will meet in Multyfarnham for a walk to Donore beside Lough Derravaragh. Cars will leave Boherquill at 1.30pm and meet at the Friary gates at 2pm. All the Ramblers are wished a Happy and Healthy New Year, with another year of great walking to look forward to.
