Christmas Greetings: To all readers of the Drumlish/Ballinamuck notes at home in Ireland or overseas in whatever country your family or relatives reside in, I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Christmas. I thank everyone individual or community group for all the notes received during the year, by letter, text or email. I thank the Management and staff of the Longford Leader for all their help, courtesy, and support during the year. I wish all of them a very happy peaceful and joyful Christmas and look forward to working with them again in 2013. To all our emigrants of 2011/2012 I welcome all those who are home in the parish for the festive season and those who cannot be with us I assure you wherever you are that our thoughts and prayers are with you and our hope is that you will make it home sometime during 2013. I wish everyone in the parish a very happy Christmas and hope you will continue to support your local newspaper during the coming year. May God Bless you all.

Notes for the coming weeks: All local notes for the next 2 weeks must be with the correspondent on Thursday to ensure publication. These are special arrangements on account of the holiday season. I thank you in anticipation for your co-operation in this matter.

Confessions for Christmas: The following are the arrangements for the Christmas Confessions at which a number of priests will be hearing confessions Wednesday 19th Dec. Drumlish 7.30pm. Penitents are asked to come on time for the communal preparation which is part of the overall Penance Service. Penitants then come forward to confess a sin and be absolved. Please wait on for the final prayers of thanksgiving as this too is part of the sacramental celebration.

Masses for Christmas in the Parish: St. Mary’s Drumlish: Vigil Mass Christmas Eve at 9pm, Christmas Day; 9.30am and 11.00am; St Patrick’s Ballinamuck: Vigil Mass at 10.00pm; Christmas Day at 10.00am.

North Longford & Arva Credit Union: Christmas opening times: Ballinamuck Office - Friday 28th December 8pm – 9pm; Drumlish Office -  Friday 28th December 5pm – 7pm; Saturday, 29th December closed. AGM was held on Monday, 10th December, the following officers were elected – Chairperson: Breege Grimes; Secretary: Aishling Donnelly; Treasurer: Peter Crossan.

Gaels Utd FC: Gaels Utd FC Committee would like to wish all players, parents and supporters a very Happy Christmas and a great 2013. A fantastic club calendar containing team pictures is now available in Local Shops or from Committee or Team managers. The cost is €10 and would make a great Christmas present.

Tidy towns: Drumlish Tidy Towns & Village Enhancement wishes all its supporters, sponsors, RSS & TÚS Workers and volunteers  a very Happy Christmas and good health for 2013.

County Longford Rural Transport: Longford Community Resources Ltd(LCRL), manage, and administer the Rural Transport Programme, which covers the rural regions of County Longford. Many thanks to all stakeholders who have supported, and indeed campaigned for the continuation of the Programme throughout the year. Spaces are still available for this “door to door” service in your area, please contact your Local Provider or Seamus (Co-Ordinator) at 043-3345555. All Age-Groups welcome! Timetable: All routes for 2012 will be completed by Saturday 29th December. Services for 2013 will resume on Wednesday 2nd January.


Bingo: Bingo continues every Tuesday night in the ’98 Hall Ballinamuck with a weekly prize fund of €1,300. On Tuesday 18th December there are extra prizes on each page for the Christmas. Also on 18th there is an extra prize of a Hamper with the raffle. There will be a bonus raffle for a Saorview television and a special visitor from the North Pole. So come along and support.

Senior Citizens Party: The above will take place in The Village Inn on 6th January at 4.00pm All are welcome.

Welcome home: Welcome home to Ann Kane, Hill St. Drumlish and Michael Kelly, Kilnashee who arrived from Australia last week to be with family and friends for Christmas.

Engagement: Congratulations to Shane Prunty, Gaigue, Ballinamuck and Louise McCormack, who announced their engagement recently. We join your family and friends in wishing you both every blessing and happiness in the future.

St. Vincent’s: Bag Packing - On Sunday next members of St. Vincent’s Minor Club ,and their friends will be bag-packing in Tesco’s to raise funds for the club. All volunteers welcome and all help appreciated. Please notify any club official.

Fundraiser: On December 28th a fundraiser will take place in Dillon’s Pikeman Inn, Ballinamuck, music by Liam Gill and his band.. A great night is promised and your support would be appreciated.

Variety show: Ballinamuck National School will have their Christmas Variety Show on Wednesday, 19th December at 6.30pm in ‘98 Hall, Ballinamuck. All are welcome.

Shane Brennan 5K Run/Walk: A large crowd of walkers and runners is expected to turn out for this charity event on St. Stephen’s day in Newtownforbes. The charity benefiting this year is The Irish Kidney Association – Longford Branch. Registration starts at 11.00am – walkers €10, (concessions for families) Runners€15. Chip computerised timing is being used this year. Start times – Walkers 12.45 and Runners 1.00pm. Plenty of refreshments and a DJ should keep everyone happy afterwards. Bring a friend.

Concert: Drumlish National School Christmas Concert which took place on Wednesday last in St. Mary’s church was an outstanding success. Great credit is due to the Principal staff and pupils of St. Mary’s, to the parents and to the Board of Management. The performance was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Well done.

Baptism: Congratulations to Cillian Anthony Davis, son of Oliver and Sonia, Greagh, who was baptised on Sunday last and welcomed into the faith family of Drumlish/Ballinamuck. Congratulations also to his parents.

Drumlish Community Centre celebrates 25 years: A gala weekend to celebrate the 25year anniversary if the community centre and the gathering 2013 is been organised for the may bank holiday weekend 3rd-5th may 2013  a fun filled entertaining weekend is promised for everyone. there has been a facebook page set up for the event if you could like and share it with family and friends at home and abroad we would be grateful. Any old photos or stories that people may have we would appreciate these all will be minded and gave back  these can be dropped into Bridget in the post office. Annual Soccer Tournament: The Annual Christmas Soccer Tournament at Drumlish Astro Turf Pitch is starting soon. Anyone who is interested in entering a team should contact Colin on 0860761556.
